Darici mtng TurkeyDr. Yesim Darici, associate professor of physics and director of the Women’s Studies Center at Florida International University, along with FIU’s advisory board member for the School of Integrated Science and Humanity, Mrs. Mine Ucer, were at Yildirim Beyazit University recently for several meetings and talks. They met with the president of the university, Dr. Metin Doğan as well as health sciences and social services professor Nurdan Duman, political sciences professor Dr. Fatma Özgü Serttaş and nursing professor Dr. Sena Kaplan. While in Turkey, Darici and Ucer followed up on several agreements between the two universities regarding global women’s rights, women in science and future collaborative projects, including a planned, collaborative conference in Turkey in May 2014.

Darici also visited Buyuk College in Turkey. There she spoke to students about the importance of studying physics, as well as about women’s rights and how to be a good global citizen. In addition, Dr. Darici met with Sedef Küçük, a member of the Turkish Parliament. Sedef Küçük was elected to the Turkish Parliament in 2011, representing a district in Istanbul and serves as a member of Parliament’s Equal Opportunity Commission.
